Captured in Puerto Rico in 1962 during a schistosomiasis field study, this image shows a man applying a molluscicide to a water-rich environment known to harbor aquatic snails. Biomphalaria spp. snails play a key role in maintaining the life cycle of the parasitic human blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni, and controlling their populations is essential for reducing transmission of this pathogen.
