Caption:
This photomicrograph shows a guinea pig splenic tissue impression smear obtained from an animal experimentally infected with Burkholderia pseudomallei, formerly referred to as Pseudomonas pseudomallei. The specimen was processed using fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled B. pseudomallei antiglobulin. Note the presence of abundant soluble antigen, which stains specifically with the labeled antibody for B. pseudomallei. This image was created during a study of the laboratory diagnosis of melioidosis.
