This historic 1949 image, depicted what was known as a Scudder fly grill, which consisted of a latticework of flat, uniform strips of wood, that had been fastened together by a Z-shaped wooden template. This grill would be laid down in a designated study zone, where flies were known to congregate, and pose a public health nuisance. After approximately 30-minutes, the flies, which had landed on the grill slats, would be counted. You can see, that many flies had landed on this grill.
