Under a magnification of 980X, this was a photomicrograph of a hematoxylin-eosin (H&E)-stained lung tissue specimen harvested during the necropsy of a harp seal, Phoca groenlandica. This tissue sample included portions of a pulmonary granuloma, and revealed the presence of extracellular hyphae of the fungal pathogen, Rhizomucor pusillus, formerly referred to as Mucor pusillus.
