Caption:
Under a magnification of 980X, this was a photomicrograph of a hematoxylin-eosin (H&E)-stained pulmonary granuloma tissue specimen, harvested from an alloxan diabetic rabbit. In this case, induced insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, exacerbated the evolution of histopathologic changes caused by the fungal organism, Rhizomucor pusillus, formerly referred to as Mucor pusillus. Note the R. pusillus hyphal filaments coursing throughout the granulomatous tissue sample.
