This image depicted a close view of a number of multilocular cysts caused by the parasitic tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. These cysts were uncovered during the necropsy of a gerbil. The presence of these cysts inside the gerbil, represented one of the lifecycle stages through which E. multilocularis passes, while inside an infected host.
