This image depicts a dorsal view of a patient’s right thumb, which exhibited a fungal condition of the nail bed known as tinea unguium, or onychomycosis. In this case the pathogen was identified as Microsporum canis, and the photograph was captured after having begun treatment with the antifungal medication, griseofulvin. See PHIL 27940, for a view of this patient’s distal right infected index finger after beginning treatment as well.
