This image depicts a dorsal view of a patient’s right distal index finger, which exhibited a fungal condition of the nail bed known as tinea unguium, or onychomycosis. In this case the pathogen was identified as Microsporum canis, and the photograph was captured before having begun treatment with the antifungal medication, griseofulvin. See PHIL 27940, for a view of this patient’s condition after beginning antifungal treatment.
