This image depicts a dorsal view of a patient’s left thumb, which exhibited a fungal condition of the nail bed known as tinea unguium, or onychomycosis. In this case the pathogen was identified as Microsporum canis, and the photograph was captured before having begun treatment with an antifungal medication.
