Caption:
This image depicts a close anterodorsal view of the left great and second toes, in order to highlight the pathologic changes that had been caused by a fungal infection known as tinea unguium, a form of ringworm that affects the nail bed. The photograph was captured before having begun any antifungal medicinal treatment. Note the cracked, flakey morphology of the nail due to the infection. See PHIL 27951, for the appearance of the nails after having begun an undisclosed antifungal treatment.
