Under a magnification of 1125X, this photomicrograph of a PAS-stained pulmonary tissue sample demonstrates numerous round yeast forms of Cryptococcus neoformans within an alveolar space, consistent with pulmonary cryptococcosis. The organisms exhibit PAS-positive cell walls and surrounding clear halos suggestive of encapsulation.
