Caption:
Under a magnification of 1125X, this photomicrograph demonstrates three pigmented, thick-walled sclerotic bodies within tissue from a case of human chromoblastomycosis. These characteristic fungal elements, also known as Medlar bodies, represent the tissue form of dematiaceous fungi and divide by internal septation rather than conventional budding. The causative species in this case was not identified.
