Caption:
Under 980X magnification, this photomicrograph highlights four pigmented yeast cells in a tissue specimen from a case of human chromoblastomycosis. The causative fungal organism was not specified. These cells demonstrate budding, a reproductive process in which daughter cells are produced by division of the parent yeast cell, resulting in genetically identical cells.
