This photomicrographic montage of four images, highlighted the in vitro manifestations of the cercariae and eggs of the parasitic blood fluke, Schistosoma mansoni, which had been cultivated in immune serum. 1 depicts the manifestation of a cercaricidal process. 2 reveals a Cerca Rien-Hullen Reaktion (“CHR”), or positive cercarial envelope reaction. 3 highlights a positive cercarial agglutination reaction with S. mansoni cercariae. 4 depicts a positive serologic circumoval precipitin test (COPT), producing chains of globules surrounding the S. mansoni ovum.
