This image depicted a frontal view of three test tube slant cultures that had contained an unidentified growth medium. Each tube was inoculated with the fungal organism, Trichophyton concentricum, designated strain 485. The study was to highlight the T. concentricum nutritional requirements. Only casein was added to the growth medium in the far-left tube. Casein and thiamine were added to the middle tube, while casein and thiazole were added to the far-right tube. The addition of the nutrients resulted in a 1+ growth effect to the far-left tube, a 4+ growth effect in the middle tube, and a 4+ growth effect to the far-right tube.
