Under a magnification of 60X, this photomicrograph highlighted some of the histopathologic changes that had occurred in this hair shaft, caused by the fungal organism, Microsporum gypseum, which had originated from a French soil isolate, designated soil-416. This section of the hair shaft revealed a point of perforation, where the M. gypseum had entered the shaft interior.
