Under a magnification of 575X, this photomicrograph of an unidentified Gridley-stained tissue section, highlighted some of the histopathologic changes due to the disease coccidioidomycosis, caused by a fungal organism of the genus, Coccidioides. This was a view inside the caseous region of an inflammatory nodule, where you can see filamentous mycelia coursing through the section, as well as a Coccidioides sp. spherule.
