This photograph depicted a ventral view of two cotton rats, Sigmodon hispidus, that had been infected with the helminth, Echinococcus multilocularis. From this view, you can see that the specimen at left, which had been infected 20-days before, displayed an abdomen that was less distended than its counterpart at right, which had been infected 40-days prior.
