This photograph depicted a ventral view of a cotton rat, Sigmodon hispidus, that had been infected with the helminth, Echinococcus multilocularis, 40-days prior. Captured during the animal’s necropsy, from this view, you can see that the specimen displayed extensive nodularity of the liver, with accompanying hepatomegaly, displacing the adjacent abdominal organs.
