This image depicts a close view of an Ancylostoma caninum hookworm, that was atop the villous mucosa of the small intestine of a canine patient. Blood can be seen as it was expelled by the worm at its caudal end, as the worm was ingesting it from the canine host through the intestinal mucosa.
