Caption:
This was a photograph captured in Puerto Rico, which depicted a superior view of the head of a young boy, who had presented to the clinical setting with a round cutaneous scalp lesion, and accompanying overlying alopecia. The lesion was diagnosed as a case of ringworm, or tinea capitis, caused by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton gallinae, which only rarely causes ringworm in human beings.
