This photograph depicted a superior view of a patient’s head, highlighting a cutaneous crusty scalp lesion, and the overlying alopecia, which had been caused by the dermatophytic fungal organism of the genus, Microsporum. This condition is known as tinea capitis, or more generally, ringworm.
