This image from 1967, depicts a frontal view of a Petri dish culture plate containing a colony of the fungal organism Penicillium spinulosum. The organism was cultured from a specimen obtained from a children’s toy manufactured during the 1960s and 70s. The toy was a malleable plastic, putty-like material.
