This left lateral view of a Central American patient’s left leg highlights a cutaneous lesion characterized by areas of mottled depigmentation and crusted, raised, roughened skin over the thigh, knee, calf, ankle, and foot. The condition was diagnosed as pinta, caused by the bacterium Treponema carateum.
