Caption:
Under a magnification of 600X, and stained using the periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) method, this photomicrograph shows an avian lung tissue specimen (sample #323) demonstrating histopathologic findings consistent with pulmonary aspergillosis. The specimen was obtained from a caged parrot infected with the fungal organism Aspergillus fumigatus. Note the network of numerous darkly stained, filamentous mycelia traversing the tissue. See PHIL 24796 for another view of this specimen.
