Captured in Puerto Rico in 1962, this image shows Dr. Frederick F. Ferguson, former Chief of the Tropical Disease Section in the Ecological Investigations Program, National Communicable Disease Center, Public Health Service (PHS), Bureau of Disease Prevention and Environmental Control, U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), instilling insecticide into a stagnant waterway in a small Puerto Rican town. At the time, Dr. Ferguson was working with two mosquito control crew members.
