Caption:
This photograph shows a close frontal view of a CDC Lombard-Dowell (LD) Presumpto Plate I quadrant plate, focusing on the quadrant containing LD egg yolk agar (EYA). This quadrant was inoculated with an unspecified anaerobic bacterium to assess lipase activity. A positive reaction is indicated by an iridescent, pearly sheen over the bacterial growth, reflecting hydrolysis of lipids present in the egg yolk; here, such a sheen is clearly visible, indicating a positive lipase reaction.
