Under a magnification of 1.3X, this image shows a close view of the surface of an egg yolk agar (EYA) culture plate inoculated with the bacterium Clostridium novyi type A. After a 48-hour incubation period, discrete bacterial colonies are visible, each surrounded by an opaque zone of precipitation consistent with lecithinase activity.
