This historic 1961 photograph depicted polio vaccination campaign activities that were taking place at a Decatur, Georgia high school, where healthcare providers were handing out doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) to young children, who were accompanied by their parents. In this scenario, a mother was offered the opportunity to administer the OPV to her very young child, as she propped him up in her lap, while encouraging him to swallow the liquid vaccine.
