This historic photograph depicts a patient seated on the edge of his hospital bed who had been diagnosed with ancylostomiasis (hookworm infection), which led to hypoproteinemia and cardiac failure. Ancylostomiasis is a parasitic disease caused by nematodes of the genus Ancylostoma.
