This photomicrograph of a Gram-stained specimen reveals Gram-negative Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni bacteria harvested from discrete colonies grown on a 48-hour brain-heart infusion (BHI) agar plate culture supplemented with 5% rabbit blood. See PHIL 29247 for a specimen from the same colonies after a 72-hour incubation period, demonstrating the development of coccoid forms.
