Caption:
This photomicrograph of a Gram-stained vaginal smear sample, revealed the presence of the fungal organism, Candida albicans, which lives on numerous parts of the human body, as normal flora. However, when an imbalance occurs, such as when hormonal balances change, C. albicans can multiply, resulting in a mucosal or skin infection called candidiasis.
