This historic image, captured in 1960, depicts a father seated in his home with his two sons during the Rhode Island polio epidemic. One son, seated behind his father, had developed paralysis of the right arm following poliomyelitis. The father also shows evidence of prior poliomyelitis, with muscular atrophy visible in his right arm, reflecting an earlier infection approximately 25 years before.
