This historic image, captured in 1961, depicts a modified spade used to excavate a Norway rat, Rattus norvegicus, burrow. A-dust (rodenticide dust) had been introduced into the burrow (PHIL 29648), and the three rats shown on the shovel had succumbed to the toxic agent.
