This historic image was captured in 1978 at the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and depicted former Director of the Smallpox Eradication Program, D.A. Henderson, MD, MPH, on the left, who was showing the former Assistant Surgeon General, and former Director of the Smallpox Eradication Program J. Donald Millar, MD, DTPH the box in which the large gavel depicted in PHIL 30076 and 30079, had been packaged. It is unknown as to the meaning of the gavel, or what activity was taking place at the time of this photograph.
