This 1976 photograph was captured during an investigation of hepatitis at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, located in South Dakota. The viral disease was thought to have been spread from person to person at school, however, there was no major investigative breakthrough. This image depicted an adult male and a younger person, maybe his child, who were seated on a horse, indicating one of the methods children were transported to and from school.
