Captured in a laboratory environment, this historic image depicted the right hand of a laboratory technician that was holding a thin nail to the exterior of a chicken egg, which would be used to puncture the eggshell prior to its inoculation. Both the nail, and the egg’s exterior surface had been sterilized before the puncture had been accomplished.
