Captured in a laboratory environment, this historic image depicted the right hand of a laboratory technician that was holding a needle-tipped syringe, which was steadied using a rubber test tube stopper, and was being used to penetrate the top of a chicken egg that was about to be inoculated. The beaker on the left contained a solution of 70% alcohol, in which gauze pads were soaking, one of which having been used to sterilize the egg’s exterior surface.
