This image, captured in 1978, depicts Alan R. Hinman, M.D., holding two hand puppets used in immunization education for children. In his right hand is “Sam Susceptible,” and in his left is “Meany Measles.” These characters were used in support of mass immunization campaigns and educational skits designed to inform and engage young audiences.
