This historic image, captured in 1976, depicts a laboratory technician (left) and Communicable Disease Center (CDC) Chief of the Respiratory Virology Laboratory, Dr. Alan Kendal (right), examining serologic test results. These tests were performed to detect influenza A/NJ/8/76 (swine flu) by assessing rising antibody levels to the virus during vaccine trials.
