This historic photograph depicts a portrait of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) staff member Laurence Stephen Farer, MD. Dr. Farer served as a U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) medical officer, Director of the Division of TB Control, and Director of the Division of Quarantine, and participated in the 1977 World Health Organization (WHO) project that successfully eradicated smallpox worldwide.
