This historic image was captured in 1977, at the first Center for Disease Control (CDC) observance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday celebration. At this point in the gathering, then CDC Director, David J. Sencer, MD, MPH, was about to present celebration attendee (see PHIL 30604), Rev. L.G. Montford with a tribute to Dr. King’s legacy.
