This historic image was captured in 1977, at the first Center for Disease Control (CDC) observance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday celebration. This was a side activity conducted to present Rev. L.G. Montford, third from the left, with a tribute to Dr. King’s legacy. On the far left, handing the Reverand the tribute, was then CDC Director, David J. Sencer, MD, MPH. To Dr. Sencer’s left stood former Georgia State Representative, Henrietta Canty, and on the far right stood James Walter “Walt” Guest, Jr.
