This image was captured June 13, 1962, inside the Communicable Disease Center’s (CDC) Auditorium, which was situated inside the former Building 1 on the Center’s Roybal Campus Headquarters, in Metropolitan Atlanta. This scenario had unfolded during the 11th Annual CDC Awards Presentation Ceremony, and showed former CDC Director, , Clarence A. Smith, MD, MPH, on the right, presenting Sanitary Engineer, Henry C. Vollrath, III, with a Commendation Medal Certificate, for his overall outstanding work.
