Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows two Centers for Disease Control (CDC) scientists passing a 6-well cell culture plate inside an airtight containment cabinet within the Maximum Containment Laboratory (MCL). Each scientist has inserted his arms into the cabinet's attached airtight glove sleeves, allowing the culture plate to be transferred while maintaining the integrity of the sealed containment system.
