Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Special Pathogens Branch (SPB) pathologist James V. Lange, PhD, working inside the Maximum Containment Laboratory (MCL). In this view, Dr. Lange is adjusting the control handle of an airtight containment cabinet while monitoring the cabinet's Magnehelic manometer, which measures the pressure differential within the containment system.
