Captured in 1957, this historic photograph shows Communicable Disease Center (CDC) arbovirologist and entomologist Dr. William Daniel “Dan” Sudia, seated on the left, inoculating mosquitoes with an unidentified pathogen. An unidentified associate was capturing another group of mosquitoes to be anesthetized and subsequently inoculated. The mosquitoes were collected using a suction tube attached to a small glass pipette. This work was conducted within the Virus and Rickettsia Section, Laboratory Branch, at the Cumberland Field Station in Montgomery, Alabama.
