Captured in 1978, this historic photograph shows Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer Richard M. Selik, MD, a member of the EIS Class of 1978. Following his EIS service, Dr. Selik continued a long career at CDC, where he became extensively involved in the epidemiology and surveillance of HIV/AIDS. His work included the analysis of national HIV/AIDS surveillance and mortality data and the development and refinement of HIV surveillance case definitions.
