At the time of this historic photograph, visiting Tongan Prince Taufa‘ahau Tupou IV, pictured on the left, who would soon become King of Tonga, was shown holding a Ped-O-Jet® jet injector used to administer smallpox vaccine. Former Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer D.A. Henderson, MD, pictured in the middle, would become head of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global smallpox eradication program in 1966.
