Captured in 1985, this historic portrait depicts Lou Flippin Turner, who at the time was a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and was working with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Ms. Turner went on to earn MPH and DrPH degrees from UNC and pursued a distinguished career in public health laboratory science, eventually serving as Director of the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health.
